The Secret to Keeping New Year’s Resolutions
We started a new year!
2020 has been a whirlwind but each new year brings new opportunities. The New Year represents a fresh start and clean slate to make more positive choices for ourselves and others. Some of us are taking the opportunity to do something differently than we did last year. Actually it's about half of us. Studies show that about 50% of us set goals we are striving to meet by the end of the year. Some popular New Year's Resolutions or goals are to:
Exercise
Eat Healthier
Save Money
Practice Something "Self-Care" Related
Despite half of us setting goals or resolutions, fewer than 10% of us are successful in keeping the resolutions made. There are numerous reasons for why we do not; but, it is more compelling to look at the practices of those who do keep them!
Here are five of those:
They write goals down
They involve others (We join a community of like-minded others with the same or similar goals or we tell close family and friends our goal to help us commit to it)
They choose goals with personal value/purpose
They practice self- compassion and self-forgiveness (It actually helps!)
Cultivate a healthy attitude
Attitude has a powerful influence on us and our ability to keep our goals. Find out how it works for us in the next post!
